Wind turbines -
Alternative Power
Wind turbines can provide useful amounts of power 24 hours a day quite economically, providing they have a suitable site. A wind turbine is installed on the top of a pole, from 6m to 30m high in clear air. The pole can be part of a house, free standing or guyed. Wind turbines are not large. They have 3 blades with a fan diameter ranging from 2.4m. Installations are designed to withstand 170km/h winds without damage.
There are very few moving parts therefore, maintenance is minimal. Structures can be designed to tilt to ground level for maintenance. Small wind turbines are provided with a charge controller to optimize performance.
Units are available from 400watts to 20kW. Larger installations can be arranged.
Before contemplating a large wind turbine installation it is recommended that a wind study be carried out or wind information from an existing nearby site be obtained. (KAYROD Services can provide these).
Key benefits of wind turbines for alternative power
- Low maintenance
- Day and night power when the wind is available
- Built to withstand winds up to 170km/h
- Easily lowered to facilitate maintenance
- Can be attached to a building or free standing structure
- Easily interconnects with solar installations
- High power output from a small installation
